Dust Off Those Forms!

It should come as no surprise that many federal employees wait until their retirement is on the horizon before reviewing the information used to calculate their retirement benefits. Unfortunately, inaccurate or incomplete records have led to long delays for employees receiving their full retirement benefits.

Here are three things you should do so you’ll be more prepared for retirement:

  1. Request copies of all your SF-50 form from your HR office – Check for accuracy and correct any errors.

  2. Review the allocations of your TSP funds – You may find allocations made many years ago that could be putting your retirement at risk now.

  3. Review your Designation of Beneficiary Forms (TSP-3, SF 2823 FEGLI, SF – 1152, and SF – 3102) – Make sure they reflect your current choice of beneficiaries, and that they have been updated with the latest contact information.

I also strongly suggest reviewing all beneficiaries once a year. At my office, I provide a complimentary annual beneficiary review to help avoid costly mistakes you may not know could be hurting your retirement.

If you would like to take advantage of this complimentary service, call my office at (215) 672-7676. I’m here to answer any questions you have.
